Rivalries and Territory Disputes

In this section, it covers the following;

▶ What is a rivalry and territory dispute? What is the difference?
▶ GBMP's rivalry and territory dispute system, including a list of potential attack points for each clan.
▶ Where do the wolves fit in?

In the series as well as in real life with any animal, there are often territory disputes and rivalries. But, since this is not real life and is just roleplay, I have created this guide for highranked characters to arrange patrols so territory disputes and rivalries can occur. This guide is also to maintain fairness and realisticness in these disputes.

Only leaders / alphas can arrange the patrols for the territory disputes and rivalries. If the Beta/Deputy wishes to lead a patrol and cause a territory dispute (try to claim a territory or steal prey from another territory), then he/she must get consent from their leader to create a dispute / fight to get their territory back. Yes, that’s right..Territory can be stolen from opposition clans.

Territory disputes / rivalries should be discussed with an Administrator first. This is to ensure your plan is realistic and achievable as well as fair. Some clans may have drama going on in their clan and it may be too overwhelming for them to have a surprise dispute. Clan dramas arranged by leaders do not need to be posted in the character plot section, as long as they have been discussed with an Admin.

What is a rivalry?
A rivalry is basically hatred between two clans/groups. There is dislike and much insults being spat back and forward. There needs to be a reason for said rivalry, however. Even if it is small, there still needs to be a reason. There is then a war which usually strikes up. Permission for a war / rivalry from both leaders is NOT needed. Only one leader needs to want this war for it to occur. A war should be contained in one thread.

What is a territory dispute?
A territory dispute is controversy over territory. Example: ThunderClan and RiverClan’s predicaments with the Sunningrocks. The two clans often fought to try and claim the rocks. This is exactly what this is. A fight for a particular piece of territory. Once again, permission from both leaders is NOT needed. Territory disputes and stealing territory should be carefully thought through and planned realistically. Some clans could simply not try to steal another clan’s territory as it is “too far” away.

An example of an unrealistic territory steal would be SombreClan taking RillClan’s “Sun-Drown-Shore-Line” – it is on the completely opposite side of the territory and for it to be possible, they would need to make their way, unseen across RC territory.

SombreClan and TempestClan-
The two territories are rather far away from each other in respect to attacks and territory claiming as there is a large mass of water as a border. While this border appears massive on the map, we are playing it that it isn't as large as it appears, simply as it's more fair and realistic if all clans have the potential to raid / cause territory issues with all the clans they are bordered with. The TempestClan and SombreClan territory disputes will probably seem the most "furthest" away and thus appearing the most "unrealistic" however, for fairness and for the sake of RPing, these raids are acceptable but still need to be discussed with Admins.

Realistic examples - Please note, these are not all the examples, only a few;▊
RillClan and SombreClan’s “Swampy Bog”
ValiantClan and SombreClan’s “Gushing River”
TempestClan and SombreClan’s “Swampy Bog”
SombreClan and RillClan’s “Falls”
SombreClan and TempestClan’s “Outlook rock”
ValiantClan and RillClan’s “Falls”
ValiantClan and TempestClan’s “Outlook Rock”
TempestClan and RillClan’s “SunningRocks”
TempestClan and ValiantClan’s “Rock Pile”
RillClan and TempestClan’s “River”

Territory disputes have one winner, as do wars. With these territory disputes, one clan will win the territory and the other will lose.  The whole section ex; The Falls from RC, will not be moved to ValiantClan if ValiantClan managed to win this piece of territory. Reason being is that while ValiantClan may have won this territory, they most likely won’t hold the territory long enough to warrant the move. If ValiantClan won the Falls, then it is theirs to hunt on and to use. However, there is a high chance that RillClan will not be in any hurry to let go of their hunting spot and will fight back to try and reclaim their territory as ThunderClan did when RiverClan took over the Sunningrocks. Also, if ValiantClan won territory that was not theirs, it would be only a temporary take over as the “stealing territory” system is only a temporary system. This is to prevent one clan from stealing all the other clans territories and becoming “the dominant” clan.

The Temporary System and Winning/Losing
In posting this, all leaders agree to play fair and realistically in the wars and territory disputes. By this I mean, if a leader sees that their clan is genuinely losing or is out-numbered, they MUST have their clan retreat, regardless  if they are fighting for their actual territory or not. The clan losing must retreat and go back to their camp to heal up. If it is a territory dispute and the clan who retreated just lost their territory, the leader of the clan may arrange for another patrol a few days later to “reclaim” their territory. The temporary system is that a clan that does not actually own a piece of territory cannot win that piece of territory three consecutive times in a row. Example; RillClan fights ValiantClan because ValiantClan is trying to take over their Falls, however, RillClan does not have as many warriors as ValiantClan and is forced to retreat. A few days later, RillClan  goes and fights ValiantClan to try and reclaim their Falls and ValiantClan wins again..That leaves ValiantClan with one more chance at keeping that territory. If RillClan goes back for a third time to try and reclaim their territory, ValiantClan must step down and retreat, even if they look like they are winning. The leader of ValiantClan will need to call back his/her warriors and have them retreat to their territory and will need to claim that they were about to lose that battle, even if they actually weren’t. This makes it fair for RillClan and ensures they don’t lose valuable hunting spots for long periods of time.
The “reclaiming” should be spaced out between a few days. 3-4 days minimum.

If the leader of a clan who originally owns a particular territory – Ex; The Falls of RC, wishes to “allow” a clan to take that territory as their own, this is accepted and then the section – The Falls, will be moved to the new clans territory. If the leader changes their mind or a new leader steps up and they wish to reclaim that as theirs, they are more than welcome. The leader of the new territory, ex; The Falls, could allow RC to reclaim The Falls back as theirs or could fight and keep it. These “donating” or “allowing” a clan to take a territory plans should be thought out carefully as it is likely that you won’t get the territory back. They should also be discussed with an Administrator.

If your clan fights say, TempestClan for their Outlook rock and your clan loses/wins , you must wait at least 3 weeks (three real life weeks) before making another territory dispute, regardless of the clan. You can only control one territory dispute at a time and you must wait three weeks before creating another once one has ended.

Do not start your war / territory dispute until an Administrator has approved it. These “talks” should be done VIA pm and if…If someone wants to raid SombreClan, don’t PM HowlingStar and tell him you’re going to try and claim the swamp. PM another Admin such as myself and get their approval.

Where do the wolves fit in?
Wolves cannot form large patrols and attempt to “take over” clans territories as they are far too large and would win, easily. However, small groups of wolves (2-3) and larger groups of cats can be arranged to do playful border hunts and maybe even venture further and hunt on their hunting grounds. However, these small groups of wolves and larger groups of cats cannot “claim” a hunting ground in either territories as once claiming starts, more and more wolves/cats will be drawn to that spot and.. Wolves are stronger than cats so the cats simply will not survive.
