The border

A loner she-cat peered across the thunderpath, staring into SombreClan territory with interest.

HowlingStar brushed up against the bushes of the border, rubbing his scent across the leaves. His eyes fastened on the rogue across the border. "Hello," he meowed to her, his silver colored tail flicking side to side.

Her gaze drifted to the tom, a tempting smile came to her expression. She looked away and scanned her eyes down the thunderpath. "What's your name?" She meowed, without looking to him. "I'm Butterfly, a loner.."

The tom came away from the bush and warmly smiled. "It's a pleasure," he said, "I'm HowlingStar. I'm the leader here of SombreClan."

The she-cat, knowing nothing about borders, thunderpath's and territories took a few steps onto the thunderpath. "Sorry," she called, "I can't hear you!" She took a few more steps forward, her pale amber eyes on the tom. The thunderpath began to rumble beneath the she-cats paws, she cocked her head to the side and stared down at her paws. A monster was only a fox-length away.

The tom stared in horror and dove out from the bushes; adrenaline pumping through his veins. He rushed rapidly to the loner's side. He harshly leaped at her and attempted to knock her down and save her from being crushed. He rolled onto the grass on the loner side of the thunderpath. He took a large gulp of air with exhaustion, "Are you okay? Why were you on the thunderpath?"

She fell to the ground because of the impact of the tom's blow. Her eyes wide with fear, "I-I.." She turned her head to him and flattened her ears. "I'm sorry."

HowlingStar eased himself up to his paws, his head shaking. "Don't worry about it," he said. He examined the loner, checking her for wounds. "Are you hurt?" He lightly brushed his tongue over her cheek.

She smiled, shyly. "I'm fine," she said. The loner stood up and shook her pelt, "D-Do.. Do you want to go for a walk?"

A deep purr rumbled in HowlingStar's throat as he nodded. "Sound's good," he meowed. The leader padded into the bushes which lead further into rogue territory.

HowlingStar approached the thunderpath and peered down the path. Once the Thunderpath was clear, he darted across and into SombreClan territory.

He approached the borderline, from his clan's side. He stared into rogue territory, longingly. I miss her.. He thought to himself before turning back around and heading into his clan territory.

The leader halted and turned to his warrior, managing a smile. "Oh, I am fine.." He said. He hated lying to his warriors, but, he felt it was better than disclosing the truth. (DUN DUN DUN DUNNN!!! xDD)

Aurora stared at the hard black pebbles. Slowly she prodded them. Nothing, although the stench of smoke and pollution made her wrinkle her nose in disgust.

Aurora tensed at the sound, then turned around to stare at the she-cat and sighed in relief. Only one of them, huh? Whew. "Hello!" She grinned cheekily, waving her tail back and forth. "I'm Aurora! You?"

The deputy narrowed her eyes as she was unsure of this unfamiliar she-cat, "PigeonFeather, I'm the deputy of this clan." A soft smile came to her expression. "Where are you from? The Thunderpath is not somewhere you should be playing, it's dangerous."

Stormingwind prowled along the thunderpath nearby, hidden in the shadows of the foliage. He tensed, his sharp instincts telling him to stay hidden.

Aurora tilted her head. "So I see." She meowed, her unfocused eyes seemingly aimed at the black pebbles near her paws. She remained still as a large monster passed by. "I'm from the umi." She pointed towards the sun-drown place with her tail, intense gaze never leaving hers.

Stormingwind looked up sharply, noticing a sliver of gray fur among the foliage. The scents around him were mingled with the stench of the thunderpath and he wrinkled his nose, unable to tell what it was. "A squirrel?" He muttered to himself, slowly slinking towards her.

PigeonFeather slowly nodded, slightly smiling. "My brother and I ventured there when we were traveling. It is nice there, however.. Too many two-legs seem to go there." Her ears pricked, listening to the sounds around her. She slightly tensed her shoulders, her tail flicked across her paws protectively. "What brings you so close to clan territory?"

A small smile touched her lips. "The upwalkers like to swim in the umi." Aurora frowned. "It's really weird." She tilted her head and peered at Pigeonfeather intensely, brown eyes wide with interest. "So this is a clan? I was looking for my friend. But I couldn't catch their scent here." The she-cat stood up and walked towards Pigeonfeather boldly. "Do you want to be my friend?"

A large grin appeared on her face. "That would be nice. I've always wanted to talk with a clan cat." She sat down, offering a polite smile to Miserycloud. "So you guys live together? Why don't you live by yourselves like the rest of us?" Her ears pricked. "Why do you guys get mad when we get close to you?"

The she-cat flattened an ear and began to speak. "We do live together," she said, "We're from a clan, you see. It's lead by one cat, the leader..Who in our case is HowlingStar. PigeonFeather, here, is our deputy." The warrior swept her tail neatly across her paws. "Our clan is large, we have many mouths to feed. Both young and old. We need every piece of prey we can get and that includes our territory. If our territory shrank in size, it would make it harder to feed our clan." Her eyes flickered brightly. "That is why," she said.

Aurora nodded in understanding, brown eyes lighting. "So that's why you don't like when we trespass." Her ears flicked and she smiled. "Would it help if I brought some prey to the border? There aren't all that many cats who live alone like me and prey is more plentiful." Her eyes lit up and a brief smile lifted her lips.

"We aren't weak," PigeonFeather felt herself tensen, "We don't need help," she said, "We are able to manage on our own without taking prey from the rogue territory." She lowered her gaze, feeling slightly bad about the hostility in her tone. "I am sorry, you do not understand the ways of the clan and so you cannot imagine how you are possibly offending us by offering such a thing. Our clan is strong and can thrive; if we are deemed as weak, we are vulnerable and could lose everything."

Aurora stood there for a few more moments, then turned away from the border. She breathed in, stopping at the scent of Stormingwind. "Do you have business with these cats?"
The grey tabby emerged from the bushes, eyes cold. "No."
Aurora tilted her head to the side. "Errand of some sort?" She snorted and trotted away as she received another "no".

RuffledStrike gazed at the thunderpath, taking a quiet, shivering breath before darting across. Panting, he gazed at SombreClan's territory. I'm leaving...I'm leaving for real. Clan life wasn't for me. It was for MarigoldFlame... he thought sadly to himself and lifted his head slightly. He felt free. Good-bye, MarigoldFlame. He blinked, and ran.

Another monster roars down the thunderpath, towards the three cats. "Move!!!" She shrieks, racing onto the black surface and pushing the cats out of danger. The monster hits her tail before racing off into the distance.
